Vergelgen is a world-class estate, an estate like no other, it is sure to captivate your heart with its breath-taking beauty, excellence and welcoming atmosphere. My family and I love an outing to this beautiful estate and easily spend the day exploring there and enjoying all it has to offer. The exquisite landscaped gardens, historical Homestead and Library, ancient Camphor trees over 300 years old, spectacular views of the Hottentots Holland mountains, incredible kids play area, world class restaurants and award winning wines all contribute to the unique experience at this wonderful estate.
The Estate is rich in heritage with its first vineyards being planted in 1700 by Williem Adriaan van der Stel and has been under the ownership of some of the world’s greatest explorers and visionaries. Find out more on a Heritage Tour.

Stables at Vergelegen – Child-friendly Bistro
The more relaxed bistro, Stables at Vergelegen, is a lovely restaurant to dine at and perfect for families with breath-taking views of the Hottentots Holland Mountains. The restaurant has modern décor with beautiful furniture and solid wood tables. My family and I have had lunch there a few times with our young children and have enjoyed it each time. The restaurant serves breakfast and lunch with a contemporary menu, and they have a little VIP’s menu for the kids. The service is exceptional and the staff are welcoming, knowledgeable and professional and assist with any requests. I booked a table outside, which I recommend if your children are young, so they can play on the lawn in front of the tables while you are eating as the play area is a little distance away. The play area is still in view of the outside tables, if your children are older and do not need to be supervised while playing.
The play area is beautiful and one of the best I’ve seen. They have definitely taken pride in constructing this for our little ones, all specially handcrafted with a large jungle gym, slide, swings and gorgeouns handcrafted wooden animals. Safety is of top priority at Vergelegen with spongy flooring and even with the small trickle of water is purified, and ideal for kids to wet in the summer heat. It really is lovely with beautiful mountains in the background it almost feels tranquil, if that’s possible with kids 🙂 After our meal we always enjoy spending time here with the kids, they love it.
In the Summer months a Tapas menu will be served after lunch, and cake and coffee is available to order all day.

Gourmet Picnic’s are served in the magical Camphor Forest. Tables and chairs are located in the shady forest and the picnic experience is a personal affair with your picnic basket being served and wine chosen from a menu. The basket consists of a delectable selection of small portions of gourmet delights. This area is not ideal for young kids as there is no lawn for them to sit on or play as you are in the forest with ground cover. It is ideal for a romantic date, groups of friends or family, and celebrations.
Picnics are available November – April and need to be collected between 12:15pm – 1:30pm from the Picnic hut, in between the Rose Garden and Camphor Forest.
Bookings recommended. Please visit their website for full details
Picnics can be ordered on Tel: 021 – 847 2131
In December they will be hosting a Noddy Show and Carols by Candlelight. Details will be posted on their website.
