I absolutely love autumn in Cape Town, it has always been my favourite time of the year in the Mother City. The weather is perfect, the wind dies down and you can enjoy wonderful sunny days and beautiful balmy evenings. The extreme heat of summer has cooled off so you aren’t breaking out a sweat from the word go and the crazy vibe of the December holidays has calmed leaving a more laid back atmosphere around town. I love the crunchy feel of autumn leaves under my feet and the pretty colours of the leaves on the trees. It hits the nail on the head for me.
It’s the perfect time to enjoy all that Cape Town offers from wine tasting in our beautiful Winelands to a relaxed day on the beach, a hike up Table Mountain or a visit to Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens. It is the ideal time of year for all activities.
The autumn leaves in the Winelands are a beautiful yellow, orange and red colour and the blend of the dusky pink skies from sunset setting on the autumn leaves in the vineyards leaves me breathless. This is a wonderful time to visit the Winelands.
Nights are ideal too with many wonderful sunsets and perfect sleeping temperatures for a good night’s rest leaving you refreshed for a new day. This ranks high on my priority list. Sleep is definitely not overrated for me even though I have little ones when sleep takes on a whole new game.
From April the mornings and evening start to become cooler but the day still heats up to be pleasant and warm. There seems to be a bizarre pattern with the Easter weekend bringing some rain which usually falls around the end of March or beginning of April.
Don’t let me lead you astray tho, Cape Town is a fantastic place to be in summer too and very popular with visitors. It’s the summer school holidays in December and January and there is a busy vibe around town. It’s a hip happening place to be and Cape Town comes alive with all the trendy’s out and about enjoying the sunshine.
February tends to be the hottest month and in the winter months from July to August Capetonians tend to hibernate and keep warm preparing for the silly seasons chaos ahead.
March is the ideal time to travel to Cape Town, if you can. The weather is perfect and you will avoid the peak season chaos of December and January and peak season prices.
Each season in Cape Town brings with it something special but I love Autumn, it is definitely my favourite season 🙂
