CAPE TOWN ATTRACTIONS FOR KIDS
The iconic Table Mountain is a great experience for kids and they will love the Cabelway. Kids under 4 are free and from 1 May till the end of September 2 kids are free with the purchase of an adult ticket. Click here to read more
There is plenty of entertainment for kids at the Waterfront and there are two plays areas at the Shopping Wharf and Clock Tower. You can take the kids for a harbour cruise, go on the Cape Wheel, visit Scratch Patch, play mini golf at Cave Golf, go on the Hamley’s Train, or visit the Two Oceans Aquarium. Click here to read more
City Sightseeing Bus, V&A Waterfront
The City Sightseeing Bus is a fantastic way to see the city and some of Cape Town’s iconic attractions, and great fun for the little ones. This red open top, double-decker bus provides a hop-on, hop-off service to all the major tourist attractions. Kids under 5 are free. City Sightseeing Boat, V&A Waterfront
Departs from the jetty outside the Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront and takes you on a 25 minute harbour cruise. Perfect for the little ones. Kids under 5 are free. From 1 May till 15 October 2 kids are free with the purchase of an adult ticket.
The Cape Wheel, V&A Waterfront
Get a bird’s eye view in this giant observation Cape Wheel of Excellence 50 meters high offering 360 degree panoramic views of Cape Town, Table Mountain, Cape Town Stadium and Robben Island from an air conditioned cabin. This is great fun for all ages.
Jolly Roger Pirate Boat at the V&A Waterfront
This is the only authentic Pirate Boat in South Africa and extremely popular with the little ones. The Pirate Boat sails four times a day in the morning, midday, afternoon and a sunset cruise.
Stroll through the gardens, laugh at the adorable squirrels and enjoy a meal at the child-friendly Company’s Garden Restaurant. Click here to read more
Experience the magic of the night sky in this dome shaped auditorium. A Minolta star machine and multiple projectors are used to recreate the sky. This is a fun and educational audio-visual show for children and adults. Iziko South African Museum
The Museum houses more than one and a half million specimens of scientific importance including fossils almost 700 million years old to insects and fish caught last week. Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, Newlands
Walk on the Tree Canopy Walkway and see the life sized Dinosaur sculptures made from tin. Dine at child-friendly Moyo which has a lovely play area for the little ones, or bring your own picnic. Click here to read more
Cape Point Nature Reserve
Be a tourist for a day and visit this World Heritage Site located 60km south west of Cape Town at the tip of the Cape Peninsula in the Table Mountain National Park. Cheetah Outreach, Somerset West
Cheetah Outreach is an educational and informative community programme to create awareness and to raise funds for their survival.
Monkey Town Primate Centre, Somerset West
Monkey Town is a Wildlife Centre for monkeys and apes with over 230 animals and 28 different species of exotic monkeys with many of the species on the endangered list.
Butterfly World, Stellenbosch
Set in a tropical garden in a greenhouse here you will find an amazing variety of exotic, tropical butterflies.
Located just off the N1 at Exit 47 in the Winelands at the cross roads to Paarl and Stellenbosch. Open daily from 9am – 5pm.
Le Bonheur Crocodile Farm, Franschhoek
Informative interactive tours are conducted every 45 minutes crossing concrete walkways above the open crocodile ponds. Babylonstoren Road, just off the R45. Open daily from 9am – 5pm.
Big Cat Park at Vredenheim Wine Estate, Stellenbosch
At the Big Cat Park you will meet lions, cheetahs, leopards, caracal and tigers. Vredenheim provides a place of sanctuary for these animals in large enclosures with the purpose to educate the public about the animals. Open daily from 9am – 4pm.
Sanccob Rehabilitation Centre for Seabirds, Table View
Behind the Scenes Tours: Monday to Saturday 10am – 4pm, Sunday 10am – 2pm. The tour includes a 20minute tour of the facility and 40-minute activity with an ambassador bird If you love seabirds then this is must for you. Booking essential: [email protected] or Tel: 021 – 557 6155
Intaka Island, Century City
Intaka Island is an award-winning 16 hectare wetlands and bird sanctuary. It is home to 177 species of indigenous fynbos plants and 120 bird species. Take the kids on a scenic ferry ride around the canals, which takes approximately 35 minutes. Intaka, means ‘bird’ in Xhosa and is a unique example of nature conservation and urban development co-existing in harmony. They offer guided tours, bird watching, boat rides and educational school outings.

Mini-golf in Mouille Point on the promenade is great fun for kids and an affordable activity at R22/person.
Scratch Patch, V&A Waterfront
Experience the beauty and variety of gemstones in Southern Africa. Thousands of gemstones literally cover the floor where you can scratch for your favourite. Purchase a pot and scratch away for a South African gem. Kids love this but it is great fun for everyone. Cost ranges from R17 for a small bag to R95 for a large container.
Located on Dock Road, near the Aquarium. Open from 9am – 6pm.
Cave Golf, V&A Waterfront
Cave golf is a well-designed indoor 18-hole mini golf, or putt-putt, course set inside a man-made cave. It is sure to challenge your golfing skills with its tricky course and obstacles. It is situated on Dock Road, next to the Scratch Patch.
Cape Town Science Centre, Observatory
The Science Centre is a brilliant way for kids to experience Science in an entertaining and educational environment with over 250 hands-on exhibits and mind-boggling puzzles. City Rock, Observatory
City Rock located in Observatory is an indoor rock-climbing venue, in a safe environment. The climbing facilities include a large bouldering area and high walls for roped climbing. There are three climbing options for kids. No children under the age of 5 will be allowed to climb.
An indoor trampoline park perfect for all ages. The wall-to-wall, interconnected trampolines will get your heart pumping and your face smiling. Inside the park there are over 17,000 square feet of trampolines, 2 dodgeball courts, 3 basketball lanes, a gigantic foam pit, 2 tumble lanes, a free-fall stunt jump foam pit, a battle beam and a fidget ladder. 104 Main Road, 3rd Floor Stadium on Main (Access from the parade area), Claremont
A fun outdoor obstacle and activity course swinging through trees including Tarzan swings, ziplines and treetop adventures. Located in the Constantia Nek forest there are two courses dedicated to kids and one obstacle course for teenagers and adults. This is a great adventure for kids. Click here to read more
Bike Park at Constantia Uitsig
The Bike Park at Constantia Uitsig offers cyclists of all ages and skill levels laps and laps of fun. Featuring a variety of cross-country track stretching 3.5 kms through indigenous vegetation and scenic Constantia, there are beginner jump lines all the way to expert drop-offs, rock gardens, a wooden berm, rollers and a suspension sky bridge (that tracks the canopy of the trees) ending in a corkscrew exit. Bikes are available to hire at R50 / hour. Open 7 days a week from 8am to 6:30pm. Entry R50 / day or R30 between 8 – 9am.
Imhoff Farm, Kommetjie
There is plenty of entertainment at Imhoff Farm for families including the petting zoo at Higgledy Piggeldy Farmyard, Maze World, a Snake Park, Camel Rides and an Equestrian Centre. You can also enjoy a meal at the lovely child friendly Blue Water Café were they can play in a secure garden. Click here to read more
Higgeldy Piggeldy Farmyard at Imhoff Farm
The Higgeldy Piggeldy Farmyard is one of the best petting zoos I have seen. There is an entrance from the garden at the child friendly Blue Water Café. It is amazing with lots of animals to pet and feed. My kids absolutely loved it. We spent ages walking around, feeding the animal and having a good laugh at some of them too, especially the ducks and emus. They have pigs, goats, sheep, ducks, geese, chicken, rabbits, guinea pigs, rabbits, cows, emus, alpacas and springbok. Imhoff Farm, Kommetjie Road, Kommetjie
Snake Park at Imhoff Farm
The Snake Park at Imhoff Farm is a reptile rehabilitation centre and sanctuary and contributes to saving species from extinction and protecting the natural environment they depend on. Camel Riding at Imhoff Farm
Located at Imhoff Farm there are five camels available and two route options, a short route and a scenic route through the bush to a lookout point for Noordhoek Beach. Maze World, Imhoff Farm
Maze World is an interactive new 3D maze at Imhoff Farm – a great outing of fun for the whole family. Take a tour of Southern Africa, travelling to our neighbouring countries of Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique – each destination is represented by a flag. Look out for different animals and learn about African animal conservation along the way. Perfect for a family outing. R30/child and R50/adult.
Noordhoek Beach is extremely popular for horse riding and there are various companies in the area offering a beach ride including the Equestrian Centre at Imhoff Farm.
Silvermine Nature Reserve
Get the kids out into nature for a scenic walk in the reserve. Conservation fee: R40/adult, R20/child

Cool Runnings Toboggan Park, Bellville
An outdoor toboggan track riding downhill on a sled. This is the only toboggan track in Africa! The sled races down a 1.2 km steel half pipe. Children age 8 and above can ride alone while children under 8 need to ride with an adult. A sled can carry 2 people. From age 3. Open 7 days a week. Monday to Friday 11am – 6pm.
