The exquisite, stylish boutique winery Peter Falke Wines in Stellenbosch, nestled against the majestic slopes of the Helderberg Mountains is the perfect picturesque setting to this idyllic estate. Situated in my favourite area of the Stellenbosch Winelands known as the Golden Triangle for the unique location, growing climate and terrior for wine making with diverse soil types.
The estate was bought by Peter Falke in 1995, a German entrepreneur and in line with the luxury status of his socks Peter Falke Wines replicates the same status of sophistication and luxury. Peter Falke’s wife, Parisian interior designer Danièle’s unique French flair and style is found throughout the interior, Tasting Room and estate.
The estate dates back to the 18th century and on arrival you will be met by traditional Cape Dutch architecture and beautiful blooming Bougainvillea. Don’t be led astray from the traditional exterior, the interior is ultra-modern with exquisite décor and dazzling chandeliers that add a stylish touch of chic elegance to the estate.
Leading out through the rear doors of the tasting room are the luxurious outdoor seating areas. The estates expansive lawns are ideally setup for a lingering afternoon of wine tasting and sundowners accompanied by delicious cheese and charcuterie platters, European-style salads and nachos.
There are two outdoor seating areas, one adjacent to the Tasting Room with a modern lounge setup for wine tasting. The informal lawn area is surrounded by beautiful rose gardens setup with bean bags and is ideal for groups or romantics looking to enjoy a relaxed afternoon with outstanding wines and tasty platters. In this area wines needs to be ordered by the glass, carafe or bottle. This area is ideal if you are taking the kids with plenty of space for them to play but there is no jungle gym.
Set on the lawn in between the two seating areas are two eye-catching giant-sized corkscrews branded with the PF initials, another touch from Danièle Falke.
There are two ranges of wines, The Signature range for the discerned wine connoisseur, and the Peter Falke range are the perfect easy drinking wines symbolizing relaxed, stylish sociability with a light complex character. The personality of the wines reflects the personality of the owners with a commitment to leisure, sophistication and indulgence.
Even the Peter Falke wine glasses add elegance, personally imported from France, with an interior curved ridge which aids the tasting experience by adding air as you swish your wine tasting around.
Hubby and I spent an indulgent afternoon at the estate on a beautiful sunny autumn day tasting their full range of outstanding wines paired with a selection of delicious cheeses and charcuterie. Their wines are sensational and I absolutely loved them all with our favourites being the Pinot Noir, which the farm is becoming famous for, the Sauvignon Blanc and the Exclusive Blend. Unfortunately, the Blanc de Noir, which is the most popular wine, was sold out, oh well… we will just need to visit again.
The menu consists of a selection of hard and soft cheeses including Brie, Camembert, Swiss Chevre, Gorgonzola, Crottin, Fresh Asiago and more for made to order platters. European-style salads include Caprese, Cucumber and Chevre Cheese Salad, Red Kidney Bean Salad, Lentil Salad, Parma Ham and Melon and they serve tasty Nachos.
Peter Falke Wines was a wonderful discovery and suits the modern day person looking for style in a relaxed environment with outstanding, award-winning wines. This was an unforgettable experience and a delightful sensory journey exceeding my expectations, I can’t wait to return.
