Company’s Garden Restaurant
The Company’s Garden Restaurant, inspired by its natural surroundings, serves a selection of hearty breakfasts, light meals and authentic South African and Cape cuisine. There is an enchanting feel to this causal, family friendly restaurant where kids can play in weaved, human sized bird nests or on carved animals while you eat and keep an eye on them. Deer Park Café
Located in Vredehoek on the scenic slopes of Table Mountain National Park this café is located next to Rocklands Road public park with abundant space for the little ones to play and plenty of jungle gyms, swings and slides. Click here to read more
Located in Kloof Street in the CBD this fun café hasdesigned an eating experience for the adults to enjoy while their little ones and aspiring chefs are invited to supervised fun activities like making pizza, baking gingerbread men and cookies, and decorating cupcakes.
Shimmy Beach Club
A stylish beach club and restaurant located in the V&A Waterfront including a supervised indoor children’s play area and an infinity pool.
Moyo at Kirstenbosch Gardens
Moyo is located near Gate 1 in the Kirstenbosch Gardens and has a great play area for kids in view of the outside tables at the restaurant. There is a wooden jungle gym, monkey bars, slide and lots of fun climbing for the little ones. The jungle gym is set in sand making a huge sandpit for playing. Rhodes Memorial Restaurant
Situated on the Northern slope of Table Mountain behind the famous Rhodes Memorial with spectacular views over the city. There is a kids play area with a large wooden jungle gym for the kids. The menu changes seasonally with a strong al fresco influence in the summer. Winter boasts a roaring log fire, Gluhwein and wholesome specialities such as Ostrich Bobotie, Cape Malay style curries and Lamb Bredies, prepared with only the freshest of ingredients. The on-site home-style bakery is renowned for delicious cakes and desserts. Open 9am to 5pm daily.
Blue Water Café at Imhoff Farm
Located on Imhoff Farm, near Noordhoek, you will find this family fun café serving tasty breakfasts and wood-fired pizzas. The restaurant is set in a lovely secure garden for the little ones to play in and has a magical faraway tree with tree house, a slide and jungle gym. There are animals in the fields in front of the restaurant and Higgledy Piggeldy farmyard is located right next to the restaurant with an entrance from the lovely secure garden. Hometown in Rosebank
A welcoming space for families with babies and young children to socialise or relax. There is a play area in the secure garden with blackboards for drawing, a playhouse and jungle gym. They serve delicious homemade meals made from scratch for you to enjoy while watching your children play.
The Clubhouse at Claremont Cricket Club
A family style eatery at the Claremont Cricket Club in Constantia with a supervised play area and plenty of space on the sports field to run around or play a game of cricket.
Dunes Restaurant in Hout Bay
Dunes is an idyllic seaside Restaurant with beautiful oceans views and the perfect place for families looking to enjoy a meal in Hout Bay. There is a play area and jungle gym located in the sand to keep the little ones busy while you enjoy your meal. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Clay Café in Hout Bay
A welcoming café to families, great food, an outside play area and a wide variety of bisque to paint from. You can choose from over 200 items and then essentially decorate your pottery piece. All items are then left at the cafe for 2 weeks to go through a firing and glazing process and then clients need to come back and collect their items. Pottery is then dishwasher proof, oven proof, microwave proof; the works! Kids of course love this place!! Besides the amazing figurines to choose from like fairies, minions, lego rangers, rockets etc (and practical items of course) there is an amazing play area that can keep the kids occupied for hours: elevated trampolines (go-boings) jumping castles, jungle gyms and climbing frames.
Die Damhuis in Melkbos
An idealistic beach café located at Melkbos Beach with a well themed lighthouse and sailboat for the kids to play on set in sand with a marquee over the boat for shade and protection from the sun. Tables are located in the sand creating a large sandpit for the little ones to play and there are plenty of beach toys. Click here to read more
Ons Huisie in Blouberg
A seaside café located next to Small Bay beach in Blouberg in a restored fishing cottage. This restaurant has a small but lovely kids play area with a bike track around the plastic jungle gym designed as a ship with climbing tracks and slides. The play area is supervised during busy times.
Mont Marie in Stellenbosch
This exquisite child friendly restaurant was an absolute gem to discover and definitely worth a visit. It’s rare to find such a stylish child friendly restaurant set in the picturesque Blaauwklippen valley in Stellenbosch surrounded by vineyards and mountains. Once you have arrived you will appreciate the extra care they have taken to show families how welcome they are with the little ones. The restaurant overlooks a dam and hosts an amazing enclosed kids play area set in a fenced area for extra safety with lots of jungle gyms, slides, swings and sandpit with toys. The setting, play area and food are all outstanding and it is a special place to experience. From the moment you arrive you will feel the magnificence of this outstanding venue. Klein Joostenberg Deli
A lovely, relaxed family restaurant serving simple, good food inspired from traditional French bistro cuisine. It is set in beautiful landscaped gardens with a jungle gym on the lawn space in front of the restaurant and lots of space for the kids to run and play. There are horse and cart rides on the weekends. Open 7 days a week from 8am – 5pm. Breakfast is served from 8am – 11:30pm and lunch from 12pm – 3pm. Reservations are recommended. Tel: 021 – 884 4208
CHILD FRIENDLY WINE ESTATES
Nestled in the lush Constantia Valley you will find South Africa’s oldest wine producing farm, with rich heritage and a beautiful setting this is a very memorable farm to visit. Buitenverwachting Wine Estate
This beautiful wine farm set in the heart of the picturesque Constantia Valley will certainly impress with its magnificent scenery and beautiful lawns. Picnics available November to April. There is no jungle gym.
Spier Wine Estate
Spier is a welcoming wine estate to visit with the family to enjoy a relaxed gourmet picnic in the scenic Stellenbosch Winelands. The beautiful scenery around the Spier dam with views of the Helderberg Mountain provides the perfect setting with plenty of trees for shade and a jungle gym to keep the little ones busy. You can pre-order a picnic or create your own at Eight To Go Deli. In the Tasting Room kids can join in on the tasting experience with a grape juice tasting while you wine taste. Marianne Wine Estate and Floreal Brasserie
This stunning boutique winery is a hidden gem in Stellenbosch. I absolutely love this estate and highly recommend a visit with the family. Stunning scenery, a beautiful wine estate, outstanding fine dining restaurant, delicious food and a relaxed atmosphere all contribute to making this a wonderful place to visit for lunch with the children.
Tokara Wine Estate

A popular wine estate with families hosting a family friendly restaurant with a big play area serving traditional South African cuisine. There are different play areas for different age groups.
Vredenheim Wildlife and Winery
Hudson’s at Vredenheim is a child friendly restaurant with a play area on the lawn space in front of the restaurant or you can pre-order a gourmet picnic. Vredenheim’s unique Big Cats Park is home to lion, tiger, leopard, cheetah and caracal. It is open daily 9am – 4pm. Guided tours are available on the hour every hour.
Vergelegen Wine Estate
Vergelegen Wine Estate is a world-class estate. The exquisite gardens, historical Homestead and Library, ancient Camphor trees over 300 years old, spectacular views of the Hottentots Holland mountains, incredible kids play area, world class restaurants and award winning wines all contribute to the unique experience at this estate. Enjoy a meal at the child friendly Stables Bistro.

Leopard’s Leap Family Vineyards
Situated in the stunning Franschhoek Valley this trendy, modern wine farm has a sleek and artfully designed social wine tasting area within the main dining room space. The family friendly restaurant serves a hearty Rotisserie lunch from Wednesday to Sunday. There is a play area located outside, in view of the restaurant tables with large floor to ceiling glass windows.
The luxurious La Motte is an international winemaking destination producing world-class award winning wines of excellence. Set in the picturesque Franschhoek valley surrounded by breath taking scenery this estate is sure to impress with its welcoming ambiance, friendly hospitality and attention to detail in all areas. La Grapperia is child friendly serving wood-fired, thin based pizza’s and tapas in a causal atmosphere with tables located outside under shady oak trees and space for the little ones to play. Laborie Wine Estate
Harvest at Laborie is the estates highly acclaimed restaurant serving contemporary South African cuisine. The restaurant is child friendly with a lovely, natural wood jungle gym, slide and beautiful lawns in front of the restaurant providing lots of space for play. The modern tasting space, Taste at Laborie, is their newly renovated tasting room. The spacious veranda is adorned with atomisers to keep you cool in the summer heat. Kids can join in on the tasting experience with a grape juice tasting. They serve a selection of wine pairing options, tapas, platters, pizza and a kids meal. Kiddies tables are located on the veranda with colouring books and crayons. Across from the tasting veranda, a little distance away, is a jungle gym for the little ones, but it is across a farm road, but still in sight of the tasting area so more suitable for older children who can climb well. On the Nitida Wine Estate Tables @ Nitida is a wonderful family restaurant for a casual breakfast or lunch.
Bloemendal Wine Estate
Bon Amis Café at Bloemendal Wine Estate is a lovely, relaxed family restaurant with a wonderful play area for kids right in front of the restaurant in view of the outside tables and there is a kids mountain bike track.
Altydgedacht Wine Estate
Eat @ Altydgedacht Wine Estate is a wonderful rustic restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and child friendly. A popular eatery with locals, this restaurant offers alfresco dining in a farm environment.
The Stone Kitchen at Dunstone Estate is a lovely, very child friendly restaurant. It hosts a lovely garden with two kids play areas, a sandpit with sand toys, swings, ducks, pigs and blankets on the lawn. There are also small kiddies tables. Click here to read more
Cape Point Vineyards
Cape Point Vineyards Estate is absolutely breathtaking and a perfect location for a picnic with the kids. Located on the mountain slopes of Chapman’s Peak with picturesque ocean views over Noordhoek Beach and a jungle gym for the little ones.
