The Tasting Room has been elegantly refurbished and has an inviting ambiance where you can taste the estates award-winning wines. There are comfortable couches and a cosy fireplace for winter.

Presented from Pierneef à La Motte Restaurant’s Chef’s Table, La Motte’s internationally acknowledged Food and Wine Tasting pairs five La Motte wines with five tastings of cuisine created by Chef Michelle Theron.

Pierneef a La Motte Restaurant
Pierneef a La Motte Restaurant adds to the estates sophistication serving traditional Cape Winelands cuisine. Set next to a small pond with water trickling over a beautiful rock feature complementing the tranquil ambiance. An a la-carte menu is available for Lunch Tuesday to Saturday and on Sunday a Family Lunch is served. Dinner is a fine dining affair served Thursday to Saturday.
The restaurant serves a Winelands Tea with a selection of the world’s finest teas and confectionery. The Winelands Tea is served Tuesday to Sunday 9am – 5pm, Reservations for the restaurant are essential.
Light Lunches are available in the Farm Shop where you will also find a selection of artisan breads, tasty confectionary and gift items exclusively designed for the estate.
There is a lovely grassed area where you can sit if you have children and they will setup a painting area for your little ones. There is also a giant chess board outside the museum.
The farms history dates back to the 17th century and there are four National Monuments on the estate. Following the purchase of La Motte in 1970 by Dr Anton Rupert all historic buildings have been restored. The La Motte museum displays aspects of the Rupert family, art from Jacob Hendrik Pierneef and a collection of contemporary art from South African artists.
ACTIVITIES on the FARM
Inspired by owner Hanneli Rupert, a mezza soprano, music is an essential part of La Motte. The estate host’s monthly Classical Music Concerts in the historic cellar. See their website for details.
They have a Historic Walk on Wednesday’s at 10am for one-hour including the museum, historic buildings, rose garden and information on the estates history and heritage. Reservations are essential the cost is R50.
A priority of the farm has been to uplift and empower its people by improving the quality of life of the farm workers including the development of a modern village for farm workers with a health clinic, day care centre for the employees’ children, sports facilities and training facilities.
On Thursday mornings at 10am they have a Sculpture Walk visiting the nine sculptures on the estate. Reservations are essential.
The farm is committed to biological farming and environmental sustainability. You can join in on a guided Sustainable Walk through the farms biologically farmed vineyards, vegetable and herb garden. Walks are conducted on a Tuesday at 9am. Bookings are essential.
For outdoor enthusiast eager to learn about the fauna and flora in the valley there is a Hiking Trail starting at the Tasting Room, covering 5km, which will take approximately 2 to 3 hours. You need to have a fair level of fitness to tackle the trail, which is open Monday to Saturday 9am to 2pm.
If you prefer a guided option this is available on Monday’s at 8am. Bookings are essential, cost it R100.
