Lanzerac: A Valentine’s Day, must do!!

0

This past Sunday my hubby and I had the privilege of spending some time at the Deli @ Lanzerac Wine Estate, on the outskirts of Stellenbosch.  Here, old world splendour of a bygone era meets modern cuisine and new world style wines.

While our two little ones were with “Ouma” we decided to indulge and have an early Valentines date. We opted for the “Wine and Dine with Lanzerac” Package.  The package includes a special Valentine’s wine tasting guided by one of the Estate’s Wine Advisors, followed by a relaxing light lunch at the Lanzerac Deli. Ending with a special sweet treat from the Lanzerac Deli display.

We tasted four delicious wines, two whites and two reds, each uniquely paired with a specific chocolate to enhance flavours and bring “hidden flavours” to the fore.  The whites are the Lanzerac Estate 2017 Sauvignon Blanc and the 2016 Chardonnay, which is paired with uniquely flavoured white chocolate.  The reds, 2015 Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, on the other hand are paired with uniquely flavoured dark chocolate.  The tasting involves tasting the wines on a clean pallet first, identifying flavours and characteristics, which is then followed by a 2nd tasting of the same wine. However, this time around your pallet is chocolate infused.  It was absolutely delightful experiencing the differences in flavour between the “clean” and the “chocolate” pallet tasting. Being a chocoholic myself, I’m probably predisposed to enjoying this type of wine tasting.  Additions aside I’d highly recommend it to all wine lovers.  We love wine and we loved this!

After our tasting we were escorted to the Deli seating area where we were served like royalty by Jerry, one of the old hands at Lanzerac, who took care of us.  We enjoyed a glass of smooth Lanzerac MCC (not part of the deal) whilst tucking into the ploughman’s platter.  The platter comes with a delectable selection of charcuterie, cheeses, fresh bread and condiments and was enough to render both me and my hubby replete.  The sensory experience was concluded with something sweet from the bakery’s fairly wide selection.  I opted for truffles and Jan was sold on the apple crumble after which we literally had our fill.

I can highly recommend this as either a Valentines experience or an easy afternoon with a loved one. @ only R300 per couple, surrounded by breath-taking scenery, lovely wine and delicious food we feel recharged and ready for this week!
