Why I Love the Cape Winelands

Ok this is not rocket science I Love wine… but that is not all, there is a whole lot more. The outstanding wines, beauty and heritage all add to the memorable experience the wine estates offer. If you enjoy wine tasting you have landed in heaven and will absolutely love the experience the Cape Winelands has to offer but you don’t have to be a wine lover to appreciate the beauty of the Winelands.

The expanse of the Cape Winelands totally amazes me with around 150 wine farms in the Stellenbosch region alone and approximately 200 wine farms in the Cape Winelands, the choice is endless. South Africa is recognised in the world as a top wine producing country with abundant award winning wines to taste. Each wine estate offers its own breathtaking setting, history and unique experience they will cater to everyone’s individual preferences, the enjoyment is endless.

All tasting rooms are unique too, some located on shady veranda’s or in beautifully decorated rooms, and some have cosy fireplaces for winter. Each wine estate presents its own tasting experience and wine pairing is extremely popular with many creative and inventive choices like wine and chocolate pairing, wine and biltong pairing, wine and pizza pairing, wine and Turkish delight and sparkling wine and nougat pairing I guarantee you an extraordinary tasting experience.

Most wine estates have restaurants and offer a fabulous dining experience. There is a variety of dining options from relaxed picnics to be enjoyed on the beautiful expansive lawns, bistro style restaurants or fine dining experiences that will take you on a delightful culinary journey not to be missed.

You can choose to do cellar tours at most wine estates. Warwick and Waterford offer a unique experience to do a wine drive in safari type vehicle sampling their wines in the vineyards of their origin. At Spier they have Eagle Encounters and at Villiera you can do a game safari drive.

There is a reason why the Cape Winelands is flooded with brides annually from around the world and its by her beauty that these romantics are drawn here. With breathtaking scenery and elegant Cape Dutch architecture there is a photographic opportunity around every corner making it an idealistic wedding location.

The beautiful, quaint French town of Franschhoek will definitely be a highlight on your holiday to Cape Town to experience its picturesque wine estates, fine wines, breath-taking scenery, French heritage and numerous award-winning restaurants and is dubbed the Cuisine Capital of South Africa. You can choose to experience selected Franschhoek wine estates on the Wine Tram, which is a hop-on, hop-off tour and is a great way to experience Franschhoek.

One of my favourite outings is to Vergelegen Wine Estate in Somerset West with heritage dating back over 300 years and owned by some of the world’s greatest explorers this is a special estate to experience.

With so much to explore the Cape Winelands holds a special place in my heart and I enjoy the experience of visiting new estates and I am totally spoilt with choice. The Winelands is not to be missed on a visit to Cape Town.
