Groot Constantia


Nestled in the lush Constantia Valley you will find South Africa’s oldest wine producing farm, rich in heritage and a beautiful setting this is a very memorable farm to visit. It is now a National Monument and a living museum preserving the history of the South African wine industry. They have been producing handcrafted wine since 1685.


Groot Constantia hosts historical buildings where you can view artefacts and photographs displaying the heritage of the estate and Simon van der Stel’s Manor House, which was rebuilt in the 1790’s, displaying old Cape furniture.


Award winning wines can be tasted in one of the beautiful tasting rooms. They offer a chocolate and wine pairing. Cellar tours depart every hour from 10am – 4pm. Bookings are essential.

There are two outstanding Restaurants and a Deli on the estate.

Jonkershuis Bistro is located next to the historic homestead and surrounded by ancient oak trees. You can choose to eat in a private, intimate or casual setting in their vine-covered courtyard or on the front lawns where there is ample space for the little ones to play. Simon’s Restaurant offers a bistro style menu with al fresco dining on the terrace while enjoying the picturesque views of the vineyards. They have a cosy fireplace for winter. The freshest ingredients are used to produce meals of a high standard with a range from classic dishes to their own creations.


Simon’s Deli, positioned next to Simon’s, is a new addition to the farm where you can design your own picnic basket to enjoy on the estate lawns. It also serves breakfast, is a gourmet market for meat, cheeses and preserves and is a coffee shop. They are open daily from 9am.
