Set on an idyllic private beach in Granger Bay adjacent to the V&A Waterfront, tucked away in a secluded cove you will find this picture-perfect beach café and restaurant with a swanky beach bar vibe and a relaxed ambiance. We arrived on the perfect Summer’s Day on a Friday afternoon for a delicious sushi and cocktail lunch, the perfect way to start the weekend and to steal a romantic moment with my love!
After winter renovations, I can tell you the Grand Café is looking, well rather Grand I might say.. I’m loving all the touch ups and add-on’s including the Havana Club and Bain’s Whisky beach bars, an Ibiza chill area with Savannah day beds, a glamourous indoor Grand Tanqueray Bar and an intimate private dining area with the best view in the house.
The indoor Grand Dining area is set in a revamped warehouse with an Absolut Elyx bar, chic décor and glittery chandeliers to dazzle the glamourous. At the Grand, there is dining area for every mood, occasion and weather condition! From beach dining to the terrace or indoors or simply cocktails with your toes in the sand, this is the most idealistic location in Cape Town.
Being the perfect sunny day we opted for a beach dining experience to dip our toes in the sand and chose a table right at the water’s edge. With only the beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean in front of us it was the perfect romantic choice for a little privacy and the best ocean view! It was so relaxing to hear the waves breaking on the rocks below us and the cool ocean breeze cooling us down.
There is an impressive cocktail list and it took us a while to choose but we finally settled with one of our waiter’s recommendations, the Havana Viento, a delicious mix of Havana, Malibu, passion fruit, pineapple and coconut, and hubby chose the Vanilla Colada. The cocktails where delicious and the perfect accompaniment to this idealistic setting with your toes in the sand, cocktail in your hand, we definitely had the Cape Town Summer Vibe going! A few other tantalising sounding cocktails to tempt you where the Minted Banana Julep and a Strawberry and Basil Margarita. I will definitely be heading back soon to try these!
For lunch, we ordered the Sushi Platter and it was absolutely delicious. We started with a Platter for 2 consisting of 16 pieces with a selection of rainbow rolls, California rolls, Salmon roses and sashimi and as it was SO delicious we ordered another 🙂 The sushi menu consists of a selection of 3 platters with 16, 28 or 48 pieces.
On the a la carte menu, you will find a selection of Salads, Meat, Seafood dishes, Pasta and the popular thin based wood-fired Pizza’s with a variety of toppings, from simple to the more filling with firm favourites including the Parma ham pizza and the seafood variation including Crayfish! Yummy.
The service was efficient, friendly and discreet, perfect for our romantic sneaky Friday lunch staring into the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. It certainly was a Grand day at the Grand Café, beach dining perfection. Sea, sand, sun, sushi, cocktails, summer vibes, relaxed ambiance and chic, stylish décor.
The venue is perfectly set up for all types of functions and celebrations and is an idealistic venue with beautiful oceans views, stylish décor and a relaxed beach ambiance.
