A Gourmet Picnic at Webersburg Wine Estate

0

My family and I arrived at the beautiful Webersburg Wine Estate, a Historic Cape Dutch homestead and Boutique winery, on a gorgeous, sunny Spring Day to enjoy a Gourmet Picnic and some family time. The estate will impress from the moment you arrive at its scenic entrance located on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain. This picturesque estate is the perfect location for a picnic with the kids.

The scenic and tranquil setting around the dam is ideal for picnics and a relaxed, lingering afternoon of tasty delights and delicious wine. There are large oak trees providing shade in the summer’s heat and ducks and geese swimming across the dam completing this picture perfect location. The gardens are immaculate and the views incredible, it’s impossible not to feel relaxed.

There is no play area or jungle gym but our kids happily ran around the dam and explored, watched the ducks and had a great time. Sometimes I actually think it’s a good thing for kids to use their imagination to play, and not have a designated play area, as long as the setting is suitable for play, which it definitely is. The only caution is the dam, of course, if you have a busy toddler and there is a slight incline down to the water.

The ducks and geese provide some good entertainment for the kids, and parents, too. We went for a walk around the dam with the kids midway through the picnic, and the geese took the gap and proceeded to move in. Hubby had to fight them back, it was quite an entertaining scene. Nothing to worry about, we easily won the stand-off 🙂

The picnic basket is packed full of tasty delights including a bottle of Webersburg wine of your choice for only R450 for 2 adults sharing, which I thought was very reasonable and there was plenty in the basket. We chose the Webersburg Sauvignon Blanc to accompany our picnic. While collecting your basket from the Bistro you can do a wine tasting to help you choose.

Inside our picnic basket was:

  • Home baked breads, breadsticks and cheese and pesto scone rolls
  • Portuguese style Roasted Chicken pieces with lemon, paprika and parsley
  • Croissant filled with slow Roasted Beef brisket, grilled tomatoes and fresh basil
  • Salmon and broccoli baked quiche
  • Baby potato salad tossed with Greek yoghurt
  • A selection of local cheese and charcuterie platter
  • Decadent double chocolate brownies and homemade shortbread. The picnic was absolutely delicious.

The kid’s picnic boxes come individually packed with the most delicious homemade, thin sliced potato crisps, a gourmet beef burger with cheese, a tempura battered chicken leg, a pear, peach ice tea and Astros for dessert.

Accommodation

Webersburg accommodation combines traditional Cape Dutch-style in its most stylish and comfortable expression with romance to provide contemporary, modern living. The Manor House is a beautiful original Cape Dutch Building, built in 1786 with yellow wood floors and ceilings. The Jonkershuis is an original Cape Dutch building built in 1796. The Cottage was originally the Horse Stable and has been transformed into a lovely cottage with high ceilings. The Vineyard Cottages are situated amongst the vineyards with breath-taking dam and mountain views.

Thank you Webersburg for a delicious Gourmet Picnic. We had a lovely family outing.
