Fonteinskloof – Gem of Swellendam

0

We discovered a treasure, set against the majestic Langeberg mountains of Swellendam. I was rather surprised that we have not heard of Fonteinskloof before, given its natural splendour and proximity to Cape Town. But after visiting once, it already feels like family.

Fonteinskloof is an antelope game farm set on the foothills of Swellendam, picturesque and filled with a healthy balance of both rest and activities. We originally hoped to book ourselves into the Eco-lodge, set amongst the mountains, in a Switzerland like setting, that was unfortunately booked that weekend, but we will visit again soon and book in advance.

We ended up staying in cottage number four on the farm. Fonteinskloof boasts 5 cottages (excluding the Eco lodge), all well-equipped and cosy. Our cottage was right next to the jungle gym and a stone throw from the communal swimming pool. There is also a tennis court and a games room for the kids, but the ultimate joy for our children was the outdoors. We had the privilege of hand-feeding a baby deer and his mom, going on game drives, feeding ponies in the mountains and walking amongst the springbuck.  We were blown away with the variety of animals that they keep at Fonteinskoof incl. Sable, Rhone, Nyala, Eland, Springbuck (in a variety of colours), Deer, Zebra, Blue wildebeest, Bontebok et al.

The farm boasts of incredible running and walking trails which we did as well. This is a stunning place all year round, highly recommended with family and friends. Go check it out: https://fonteinskloof.com/
