The restaurant excels in a gourmet culinary journey that will leave your taste buds mesmerized! To compliment the meal Kleine Zalze wines are paired to perfection to complete the meal.
The Kleine Zalze Wine Estate is a family-owned winery that has become well-known locally and internationally for its award-winning wines, gourmet food, sophisticated accommodation and world-class golf course making it an exceptional Winelands destination.
Since Terroir opened in October 2004 it has been making its mark in the South Africa cuisine industry with highly acclaimed, award-winning Chef Michael Broughton bringing a culture of culinary excellence to Terroir. His disciplined approach to food presents unpretentious yet simple and delicious meals. He uses locally source seasonal produce in his signature ‘deceptively simple’ style of cooking to present meals with bold flavours and classic combinations on the plate. He believes in producing excellent sauces to compliment every meal and this is the trademark of his cooking to provide depth to dishes.
The spectacular setting on a terrace under ancient oaks provides a sophisticated yet relaxed ambiance ideal for the enjoyment of fine food and wine with breath-taking views over the golf course and surrounding gardens and vineyards. The seasonal menu is presented to your table on a chalkboard with a select amount of carefully planned dishes which are constantly evolving.
Hubby and I enjoyed a romantic dinner on a Saturday evening with the ambiance set perfectly, lights low, candles light and a glass of the delicious estate sparkling wine in hand on arrival.
For starters we shared the Prawn Risotto and Squid. Wow I am no food journalist but the flavours in both dishes excelled beyond words, I am literally speechless. The sparkling wine was so delicious we savoured a little more through the starters.
For the mains hubby chose the recommendation of Confit Pork Belly and I had the delicious Linefish served with potato gnocchi and baby vegetables. Our sommelier suggested some wine pairings which was the perfect fit to the meal and enhanced the flavours exceptionally well. The Pork Belly was paired with the world-class Cabernet Sauvignon and my fish was paired with the outstanding award-winning Chardonnay.
For dessert hubby chose the Dark chocolate bar with peanut butter ice cream, and as I was enjoying the wine too much, I decided to have the Cheese plate paired with the Kleine Zalze Cabernet Sauvignon. The evening was culinary perfection and the service was exceptional, the perfect balance between attentive and discreet.
Care and emphasis is placed on pairing food and wines produced at Kleine Zalze, in the Stellenbosch region and further afield. Most of the Kleine Zalze wines may be ordered by the glass or carafe, allowing for relaxed food and wine pairings.
The servings are ‘French-style’, making it ideal for a three course dinner, and you don’t want to miss dessert. The prices are not as small but this restaurant has earned its worth and will provide a truly special dining experience.
Terroir Restaurant is an outstanding gourmet journey that excels the taste buds to another dimension! The restaurant is a must for the foodie-lover 🙂
