La Grapperia at the Spice Route is a superb option for child friendly dining in the Winelands with the family. They serve up tasty traditional wood-fired, thin based pizza’s, and traditional Flammkuchen, a German/French style pizza (tarte flambe in French). It is a thin, crisp base topped with cream cheese, finely diced bacon, garlic and onions. They pizza’s are delicious and they have gluten free.
Also on the menu are a selection of signature platters including meat and cheese with a selection of Fairview cheeses from the farm next door, salads and chef specialty dishes. I love Fairview cheese, definitely worth stopping in on the way home if you have time.
My family and I dined here for lunch and had a lovely outing with our young kids, which is always a winner to find a relaxed restaurant with tasty food, good wine and child friendly. The restaurant has tables inside and outside under shady oak trees with breathtaking views of the Paarl Winelands. There is plenty of space for the little ones to play and explore around the tables and there is lawn space and a jungle gym located above the restaurant, suitable for competent climbers.
We sat near the jungle gym and the kids could easily walk between our table and the jungle gym area while we where watching. Hubby and I felt very relaxed sitting under beautiful oak trees, savouring picturesque views and enjoying some Spice Route Sauvignon Blanc and Goats do Roam Rose (from Fairview).
We ordered pizza’s and an antipasti platter with marinated vegetables and added a selection of Fairview cheeses. The food was tasty and perfect for a family lunch. The boys loved their pizza’s and where treated to Bacioni Chocolate, a delicious dessert of dark chocolate semi-freddo ice cream in a chocolate casing topped with dark chocolate shavings 🙂
La Grapperia provides the perfect setting with a relaxed ambiance, we completely loved dining here and will definitely return. The service was efficient and the staff friendly. The restaurant is popular, book in advance.
When visiting La Grapperia I recommend to plan for a full day of exploring at the Spice Route.
