    Spier Wine Estate

This is a wonderful wine estate to enjoy a relaxed picnic in the scenic Stellenbosch Winelands, whether you have little ones or not I can highly recommend Spier. The beautiful scenery around the Spier dam with views of the Helderberg mountains provides the perfect setting. There are plenty of trees for shade as well as a jungle gym to keep the little ones busy.

They have an excellent deli, Eight to Go, where you can create your own picnic basket from local, organic produce. This is a great option if you prefer not to order a picnic basket, or haven’t, and would like to cater to your own dietary needs. I also believe it is more cost effective to do this. In the Deli you will find breads, dips, pates, cheeses, cold cuts, salads, quiche, yoghurt and bottles of estate wine can be purchased.

    Spier picnic

If you prefer to pre-order a picnic basket they have incredible options available. They need to be ordered in advance, before 12pm for collection the following day. A full menu can be viewed on their website. They are green friendly and their packaging is completely 100% biodegradable and compostable.

If wine tasting is your interest they have fantastic award winning wines, which can be sampled in their tasting room located right next to the picnic area.

At their Eagle Encounters they offer the opportunity to get up close and personal with these magnificent birds of prey which have been rehabilitated from abusive situations. These birds contribute to the farms ecosystem and allow pest control to happen naturally. Click here to read more.
