Middelvlei Wine Estate is run by the Momberg family, inviting you to join them for a traditional South African boerebraai experience. This is the only farm I know of that offers this truly South African traditional experience on a wine farm in Stellenbosch. Located on a tributary of the Berg River, the farm is a subdivision of the original Bourgogne farm which was among the first Huguenot farms when it was granted to Pierre de Villiers by Simon van der Stel, the first governor of the Cape Colony, in 1694. The beautiful Laborie estate is situated in the picturesque town of Paarl with Paarl Rock as the backdrop.
The modern tasting space, Taste at Laborie, is their renovated tasting room. Kids can join in on the tasting experience with a grape juice tasting on the spacious veranda. The Stone Kitchen is very welcoming and charming bistro with a country feel to this lovely, child friendly restaurant perfect for families with small children. Bloemendal Wine Estate
Bon Amis Café is a lovely, relaxed family restaurant located in the Durbanville Wine Valley, and forms part of Bloemendal Wine Estate. It has a wonderful play area for kids right in front of the restaurant in view of the outside tables. There are two wooden jungle gyms, a wooden house, swings and a kid’s mountain bike track, so remember to pack in the mountain bikes if you have. I would say the age range for the track would be from age 5 to 10. It is right in front of the restaurant but goes through the forest so you will not be able to see your kids the whole time.
