    Located in Vredehoek on the scenic slopes of Table Mountain National Park this café is located next to Rocklands Road park with abundant space for the little ones to play and plenty of jungle gyms, swings and slides.     Ons Huisie in Blouberg

    Ons Huisie has beautiful ocean views, located next to Small Bay beach in Blouberg.   • Blue Water Cafe at Imhoff Farm

    The Blue Water Café is a lovely, relaxed family friendly café and the perfect place for breakfast with the family. The restaurant is set in a lovely, secure garden so mom and dad can actually relax while the little ones play. The restaurant has spectacular, picturesque oceans views overlooking Noordhoek Beach. For the little ones they have a fairy-tale, Magical Faraway Tree, with a treehouse and slide. There is also a jungle gym, swings and animals in the fields in front of the restaurant. Higgeldy Piggeldy Farmyard is right next to it too, a fantastic petting zoo. There is plenty of family entertainment to enjoy on the farm with an Equestrian centre, camel rides, a reptile park and a maze.

    Clay Cafe

    The Clay Cafe offers a memorable visit of creativity and recreation. It is a welcoming café to families, serving great food with a large outside play area and a wide variety of bisque to paint from. Kids and adults can choose from over 200 items and then decorate your pottery piece. All items are then left at the cafe for 2 weeks to go through a firing and glazing process and then clients need to come back and collect their items.

    Jonkershuis Restaurant at Groot Constantia

    Jonkershuis Restaurant is located on the beautiful, historic Groot Constantia wine estate, nestled in the lush Constantia Valley. This relaxed eatery, surrounded by ancient oak trees, is a lovely family friendly restaurant to enjoy a meal with the kids. They have a delicious breakfast menu with an excellent selection on the kid’s menu. There is no jungle gym for the kids but the lawns in front of the restaurant provide plenty of space for kids to play and creates an environment where all kids come together and play, run, chase and have old school fun.

    Moyo at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens 

    Moyo is located near Gate 1 in the Kirstenbosch Gardens and has a great play area for kids in view of the outside tables at the restaurant. There is a wooden jungle gym, monkey bars, slide and lots of fun climbing for the little ones. The jungle gym is set in sand making a huge sandpit for playing. The food is themed along African cuisine including South African favourites with a twist.     Open Door in the space formerly occupied by the River Café at Constantia Uitsig. The interior has a contemporary feel and the food is of fine dining standard. This may be a more pricier child friendly option but definitely worth it for its outstanding quality meals and is boats an excellent kids play area. Open Door serves breakfast, lunch and dinner; except on Sunday they are only open for breakfast and lunch. There is a great kids’ menu too for those budding gourmets.

    Rhodes Memorial Restaurant

    Situated on the Northern slope of Table Mountain behind the famous Rhodes Memorial with spectacular views over the city. There is a kids play area with a large wooden jungle gym for the kids. The menu changes seasonally with a strong al fresco influence in the summer.     96 Winery Road, set in the heart of the glorious Helderberg countryside, has been part of the Winelands landscape for over 20 years, starting in 1996, as per the name.     One of my new favourites is The Bakery Restaurant at Jordan Wine Estate in Stellenbosch. The food and coffee are outstanding, and the view breathtaking making it a winner for us. It is definitely a treat to dine here. There is a relaxed atmosphere, evident in the modern, yet simple décor in neutral shades with a splash of red, where visitors can unwind and enjoy the freshly produced fare amongst the aromas of baking bread, pastries and freshly brewed coffee. There is no jungle gym but the beautiful lawns in front of the outside deck provide plenty of space for kids to play and explore.

    Bodega pursues the perfect marriage between modern food preparation and classic elegance that has come to be expected from Dornier Wines.     Café Blanc de Noir, hidden behind plum orchards and set on a wooden deck overlooking the vineyards, you will find this relaxed cafe serving tasty pizza’s with a casual ambiance. It is the perfect location to spend a lazy afternoon of pizza and wine. The menu is all about delicious thin-based, wood-fired pizzas and if you have a sweet tooth they have some delectable, freshly baked treats too. There is space in front of the restaurant for kids to play and a children’s jungle gym, a little distance away, suitable for competent climbers.

    Cucina Di Giovanni is set in the garden in front of the tasting room at Eikendal Wine Estate. Tables are spaciously scattered on the lawn leaving plenty of space for kids to run around. They have a tasty selection of Italian dishes on the menu. There is plenty to keep the little ones entertained including a wooden jungle gym with slide, monkey bars, fireman pole and swings as well as trees for climbing and open lawn space for the kids to play cricket, so bring a set along.     Klein Joostenberg Bistro situated on the Joostenberg Farm is a lovely, relaxed family restaurant serving simple, good food inspired from traditional French bistro cuisine. It is set in beautiful landscaped gardens with a jungle gym on the lawn space in front of the restaurant and lots of space for the kids to run and play. Attached to the restaurant is the Joostenberg Deli where you can shop for a variety of products from organic produce, free range meats and eggs, fruits and vegetables, cheeses, home cooked meals, Joostenberg wines and tasty treats.     Middlevlei Wine Estate

    Middelvlei Wine Estate is run by the Momberg family, inviting you to join them for a traditional South African Boerebraai experience. The farm, with a true rustic South African vibe, is very welcoming to families with plenty of entertainment for kids (and mom and dad!) This is the only farm I know of that offers this truly South African traditional experience on a wine farm in Stellenbosch. While mom and dad relax with a bottle of Middelvlei wine, the kids can have a good time too.     Mont Marie

    This exquisite child friendly restaurant was an absolute gem to discover and definitely worth a visit, it’s one of my favourites. It’s rare to find such a stylish child friendly restaurant! Set in the picturesque Blaauwklippen valley in Stellenbosch surrounded by vineyards and mountains Mont Marie is very welcoming to families with little ones. The restaurant overlooks a dam and hosts an amazing enclosed kids play area set in a fenced area for extra safety with lots of jungle gyms, slides, swings and sandpit with toys. The setting, play area and food are all outstanding and it is a special place to experience.     Mulderbosch Vineyards

    The relaxed, family-friendly Tasting Room at Mulderbosch Vineyards has an outdoor space with wooden decking lined with comfy cushioned seating, beanbags for the lawn, and landscaped areas where you can relax and eat while taking advantage of the views of the vineyards and rolling hills. They serve a selection of thin-based wood-fired pizzas, with a variety of delicious fresh toppings, from their outdoor pizza oven. It is the perfect setting for a relaxed family outing and an afternoon of pizza and wine. There is a large wooden jungle gym for kids and lots of space to run around and grassed hills to roll down. There are two areas for kids, or adults, to play a game of Boules – the French game where you roll heavy metal balls as close as possible to a target (similar to lawn bowls except you are on dirt and not lawn).

    Postcard Café serves simple but good food in a breathtaking setting in the picturesque Jonkershoek Valley. There is no children’s menu or jungle gym but they have beautiful lawns for the little ones to play on and we have enjoyed numerous meals with our little ones.     This charming child friendly Deli is located on the beautiful Tokara Wine Estate, just outside of Stellenbosch, with scenic views of the Simonsberg Mountains, olive groves and vineyards make this a beautiful setting for a casual breakfast with the family. The deli has a spacious feel to it with high ceilings and floor to ceiling glass walls with views of the surrounding valley and vineyards. Tables are located inside and outside on the deck all with a view. The deli is ideal for kids of all ages with baskets full of toys for the younger little ones to play with inside or on the deck next to your table and for older kids they have a wooden jungle gym, sandpit and space for them to play on the lawn in front of the restaurant, in view of the tables. There is a giant bird’s nest for the good climbers.

    The Millhouse Kitchen is located on the Lourensford Estate situated at the foot of the majestic Hottentots Holland and Helderberg Mountains. It is a lovely, relaxed restaurant for a family outing with a large garden for the little ones to play in with three natural wood jungle gyms. The restaurant’s interior is modern with a fresh appeal and there is seating inside and outside on both sides. On one side there is a deck and on the other side is the garden with the kids plays area so ensure when booking to request a table near the kids play area. The menu is inspired by French and Italian rustic dishes.

    Stables at Vergelegen Wine Estate

    Stables at Vergelegen is a lovely, relaxed child friendly restaurant and perfect for a family meal with breathtaking views of the Hottentots Holland Mountains. The restaurant has modern décor with beautiful furniture and solid wood tables. The restaurant serves a delicious contemporary menu and there is a little VIP’s menu for kids. I recommend to book a table outside if your children are young, so they can play on the lawn in front of the tables while you are eating as the play area is a little distance away. The play area is still in view of the outside tables, if your children are older and do not need to be supervised while playing. The play area is beautiful, one of the best I’ve seen. They have taken pride in constructing this for our little ones, specially handcrafted with a large jungle gym, slide, swings and handcrafted wooden animals. Safety is of top priority at Vergelegen with spongy flooring and even with the small trickle of water is purified, and ideal for kids to wet in the summer heat. The view with the mountains in the background is breathtaking, it almost feels tranquil (if that’s possible with kids ?).

    Vredenhof Organic Estate Restaurant

    Vredenhof is a Swiss family run, fully organic estate nestled in the Winelands on Bredell Road, between Stellenbosch and Somerset West. The farm is one of few in the country where you can buy and eat fresh organic produce that was harvested a few hours before. The Coffee Shop serves delicious and nutritious eats from Tuesday to Saturday and healthy breakfasts are prepared with organic eggs from the farm. There is an impressive kids’ playground complete with a castle, pirate ship, gypsy caravan and roaming cows, goats, pigs and chickens. There is also a mini-golf course and life-size chess board.

  • Bon Amis at Bloemendal Wine Estate

    Bon Amis Café is a lovely, relaxed family restaurant located in the Durbanville Wine Valley, and forms part of Bloemendal Wine Estate. It has a wonderful play area for kids right in front of the restaurant in view of the outside tables. There are two wooden jungle gyms, a large plastic jungle gym, a wooden house, swings and a kid’s mountain bike track, so remember to pack in the mountain bikes (for ages approximately from age 5 to 10). It is right in front of the restaurant but goes through the forest so you will not be able to see your kids the whole time.

    Eat at Altydgedacht

    Altydgedacht Wine Estate is located in the Durbanville Winelands 25 kilometres from Cape Town. It is a wonderful rustic farm to visit with a relaxed atmosphere and child friendly. It is a popular eatery with locals and offers alfresco dining in a farm environment. There is a play area for the kids with a jungle gym and sandpit, which is visible from the outside tables, and space for them to run and play. At the tables they have chalkboards for the little Picasso’s.

    La Grapperia at the Spice Route is a superb option for child friendly dining in the Winelands. They serve up tasty traditional wood-fired, thin based pizza’s, and traditional Flammkuchen, a German/French style pizza (tarte flambe in French). Also on the menu are a selection of signature meat and cheese platters including a selection of Fairview cheeses from the farm next door, salads and chef specialty dishes. The restaurant has tables inside and outside under shady oak trees with breathtaking views of the Paarl Winelands. There is plenty of space for the little ones to play and explore around the tables and there is lawn space and a jungle gym located above the restaurant, suitable for competent climbers.

The Pizzeria has tables located under shady oak trees with an open lawn space in front of the restaurant. The scenic views complement the tranquil setting adding to the relaxed ambience of this perfect, child friendly restaurant. The pizza’s are delicious and gluten free is available. There is a jungle gym, swings and farm animals to keep the little ones entertained watching the cows and horses roam around and plenty of space for the little ones to run and play and just be kids.     The Stone Kitchen is very welcoming and charming bistro with a country feel to this lovely, child friendly restaurant perfect for families with small children. The bistro offers classic home-cooked dishes to enjoy with a selection of their cellar wines. Dishes include; homemade burgers, quiches, ribs and steak, sandwiches and wraps and vineyard platters. They have both an indoor and outdoor play areas including a soft play, Lego table, climbing wall, kids kitchens, jungle gym, mini golf, mini soccer pitch, swings, slides and a sandpit with sand toys. Tables are set in a garden surrounded by scenic mountains with blankets and pillows scattered on the lawn for families with babies, and anyone who wants to stretch out and relax. There are also kid’s sized tables, a smaller version of the adult tables, and plenty of trees for shade. The garden is safe for little ones to roam and you are able to watch them from the table.
