The ULTIMATE experience in Cape Town is definitely a Helicopter Tour to experience the beauty of Cape Town from the skies. There is nothing like it, no words to describe it! If you are thinking this experience is not affordable, you will be happy to know it is! NAC Helicopters have a flight sharing option which is only R1080 for the Hopper Tour which departs from the V&A Waterfront and flies over the City Bowl, Green Point Stadium, Clifton, Camps Bay and the majestic Twelve Apostles. This is flight I was on. The only downside was that is was a little short but the best things in life always have us wanting more, right!? The cost might still be a little pricey for some but it is definitely one for the Bucket List.

After arrival at the East Pier office in the V&A Waterfront the professional and friendly staff made me feel very welcome offering complimentary champagne, tea and coffee. I missed my morning coffee so this gesture was welcomed. When the Helicopter is ready to depart you will receive a safety briefing and then be escorted to the helicopter, strapped in with a safety belt and headphones placed on, to converse with the captain. • Children under the age of 2years old are NOT allowed to fly (as they are not allowed to sit next to an emergency exit by law).

Things to know:

• Arrive 30 minutes before departure.
• Mobile phones need to be switched off during the flight.
• It can be cooler, so be prepared with a jacket.
• If you are wondering… you are no longer allowed to fly over the top of Table Mountain as it is designated as part of a National Park and is a protected area.

PRIVATE FLIGHTS: This option entitles you to private use of the helicopter, and therefore is the more expensive.

SHARING FLIGHTS: Prices are more affordable and quoted per person, sharing a helicopter tour. Tours can be booked for either of two daily departure times. You may be matched up with others to fill the helicopter. Seating positions are not guaranteed and will be allocated to evenly balance the helicopter. You may fly in any of our three different types of helicopters, depending on how many other passengers we find to fly with you. A minimum of two passengers is required in order to commence the flight. If you are a single person we will try our best to find at least one other to join you, however, if we can’t find one extra person, the tour will have to be postponed for another departure time or date.

The Hopper Tour leaves the V&A Waterfront and flies over the City Bowl, Green Point Stadium, Clifton, Camps Bay and the majestic Twelve Apostles. Flying time, approximately 12 – 15 minutes.

A continuation of the hopper tour plus a flight over the rustic beauty of Llandudno, Hout Bay with a view of magnificent Seal Island. Flying time, approximately 20 minutes.

THE THREE BAYS TOUR

This spectacular flight continues from the Atlantico flight via impressive Chapman’s Peak, Noordhoek beach, Fish Hoek, Kalk Bay, Muizenberg and the lush Constantia Valley – South Africa’s oldest wine region and home to Kirstenbosch Botanical gardens. Flying time, approximately 24 minutes.

CAPE POINT TOUR

Detour from the three Bays flight via Kommetjie, Scarborough, Cape Point Nature Reserve, the sweeping crags of Cape Point and Simon’s Town. You could be very lucky with some seasonal whale spotting! Flying time, approximately 35 – 45 minutes.

ROBBEN ISLAND TOUR

Heading directly to the southern point of Robben Island, circumnavigate this historical World Heritage Site and return along the beautiful Blouberg coastline with a spectacular view of Table Mountain. This tour is the only helicopter tour around the island!
