The Blaauwklippen Family Market is the perfect destination for a Sunday family outing. We had a lovely morning at the markets with our boys on this beautiful estate. It is very child friendly and your furry babies are welcome too.
There is plenty of entertainment for the little ones including pony rides, go-karts, a jumping castle and a Thomas the tank engine train ride which my boys love. Have cash handy as you have to pay separately for each activity but it is only R10 for the pony ride and Thomas and R20 / child for the others.
At the market you will find a variety of arts, crafts, antiques, jewellery, fashion and delicious food stalls where you can create your own picnic and enjoy a relaxed, lazy Sunday at this fabulous location. There is lots of space for the kids to play on the lawns while you enjoy your picnic and plenty of shade under trees.
There is a diverse range of tasty local and international flavours to suit all appetites including South African, Indian, Thai, German, Italian, Belgian and Lebanese. It is great to be able to sample a variety of flavours. My little ones got treated to the most delicious Artisan ice cream.
At the bar you can buy estate wine by the glass or a bottle. For Gin lovers there is a Gin stall just for you. Craft beer is also available and every Sunday they have live music!
In the small producer’s market you will find deli delights like olives, cheeses, preserves, biltong, fresh produce, tasty treats and handmade Belgian chocolates.
They also have farm animals including ponies, alpacas and goats (with one goat giving the term ‘goatie’ a whole new meaning).
Once a month, on the third Sunday of the month, they host the Helderberg Animal Welfare Society for a Vineyard Doggy Walk Fundraiser. The walk starts at 9am and takes you on a scenic walk through the Blaauwklippen vineyards. Entry to the walk is R20 per person but your furry friend will be allowed to walk for free.
Wine tasting can be done on the tasting room and they have a wine and chocolate pairing.
I highly recommend this as a family outing, the kids had fun and mom and dad left feeling relaxed.
Remember your picnic blanket. Doggy’s welcome
