Avontuur Estate is a family run boutique winery and thoroughbred farm, home to ‘Fine Wines and Fast Horses’, nestled against the beautiful Helderberg mountains between Stellenbosch and Somerset West. They are world-renowned for their award winning wines and internationally acclaimed thoroughbred stud operation.
They produce two wine ranges, the Estate range and the Premiere range and a Methode Cap Classique Sparkling wine and a 10-year old Pot-stilled Brandy. The synergy between the horses bred on the Estate and the wine produced is portrayed clearly in the Premiere range of wines, which bears testimony to six of the finest horses to have passed through the farm’s history.
Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm, situated next to the wine estate has always strived towards the ‘quality not quantity’ motto. The scenery of the farm with lush green paddocks filled with elegant race horses, surrounded by white roses in full bloom as you drive towards the restaurant, is one of the estate trademarks and provides a beautiful setting.
On the first Friday of every month in summer the estate hosts free Live Music events with a variety of musicians from Jessie Jordan to Anke. This is farm of history and passion which is evident in both their horses and wine.
Avontuur Wine Tasting
The Estate’s refurb modern tasting room is the perfect space for a relaxed wine tasting presented by professional and friendly staff who are knowledgeable and passionate. On sunny days you can enjoy your tasting on the terrace and enjoy the scenic views.

Local, and where possible organic ingredients are sourced to support local producers. The food is outstanding and bursting with flavour, portions are generous and the service is professional and friendly.
On cold winter’s day a friend and I where spoilt to a deicious lunch in the cosy Restaurant. For starters we had the Sweet Potato soup and Prawn & Avocado wrapped in Franschhoek smoked Salmon, with Wasabi mayonnaise, pickled ginger & Soya sauce. Yummy. We both chose the delicious Norwegian Salmon with a citrus reduction Veloutè for our main course. We ended our meal with the mouth-watering desserts Deep Fried Ice Cream with butterscotch sauce and yummy Crème Brulee with an Almond tuille. The meal was outstanding and food beautifully presented. You can feel the passion that surrounds the restaurant and the commitment to exceptional quality food and service.
They cater to Gourmet Food and Wine evenings & functions, Year-end Functions or Team-building events.
